The Chautauqua Festival is an eight day family oriented arts and music festival presented each year starting on the third Saturday of June in Wytheville, Virginia. In its 32nd year, it has become an event anticipated all year long by a growing throng of fans locally and across the region. Join us this summer in Elizabeth Brown Park in Downtown Wytheville for the fun, the entertainment, the drama, the food, and all you can imagine.

The Festival kicks off with a preview the night before the official opening. At dusk, is the Hot Air Balloon Glow on the front lawn at the Wytheville Community College Campus. Several of the pilot/owners who will be participating in the week end’s hot air balloon events illuminate their crafts against the night sky using the massive propane burners. Families gather on the surrounding hills to witness the spectacle and snap photos.

The first flight of the Hot Air Balloon Rally kicks things off at 6 AM Saturday morning. Weather permitting, we should be done with the launching, chase, and recovery efforts in time to hurry downtown for the Chautauqua Parade. At 10:00 festivities push into full gear as floats, antique cars, and beauty queens parade down Main Street , the air filled with children’s laughter and aromas from the Chili Cook-Off.

Stroll through the park visiting the art displays, photo exhibits or pick up a few favorite items at the crafts bazaar. Musicians, clowns, and actors perform throughout the park and on the upper and lower stages. And plan on eating a meal or two here, too, served up by one of the dozens of fabulous food vendors.

Activities, workshops, and displays located at venues in and around the park area.
